Vocation to Ministry

DSC_5220_edited.jpg

I was raised within the Baptist tradition in the UK, where faith was woven into the rhythms of daily life. Scripture, prayer, and service formed the foundation of my early faith, and my parents modeled pastoral attentiveness through hospitality and care for those who were isolated or vulnerable. Even as a child, I sensed that faith was not only something to be believed, but something to be lived for the sake of others.

In my late teens, I encountered the Church of England and was drawn to the richness of liturgical worship — the beauty of choral music, the steady cadence of the Church year, and the sense of being held within a tradition larger than myself. This encounter marked a deepening of my faith and a shift in how I understood God: not as restrictive or distant, but as generous, inviting, and attentive to human flourishing. Confirmation in the Church of England became an affirmation that I had found my spiritual home.

It was shortly afterwards, while watching a priest preside at the altar, that I first recognized the possibility that God might be calling me to ordained ministry. What followed was a period of discernment and formation that shaped both my theology and my understanding of leadership. Training at Cuddesdon Theological College in Oxford, followed by curacy in Ipswich, Suffolk, grounded me in Anglican sacramental life, parish ministry, and the daily realities of pastoral leadership.

In time, my vocation led me across the Atlantic to the Episcopal Church. I found in The Episcopal Church a familiar liturgical and theological home, alongside a context that encouraged generous engagement, shared leadership,

and pastoral attentiveness within complex communities. In 2022, I accepted a call as Associate Rector in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I continue to serve in parish ministry.

Ministerial Identity

My ministry is shaped by a conviction that the Church flourishes when leadership is relational, theologically rooted, and shared.

  • Preaching
My preaching seeks to be scripturally grounded and pastorally attentive, offering space for reflection rather than certainty, and inviting listeners to encounter God within the textures of their own lives.

  • Pastoral Care
I lead with a calm, steady presence, shaped by deep listening and long-term accompaniment. I value trust built over time and understand pastoral ministry as attentiveness to the whole person.

  • Theological Temperament
My theology is Anglican and sacramental, marked by humility, curiosity, and a trust in shared discernment. I am comfortable holding difference and complexity without anxiety.

  • Liturgy
I am attentive to beauty, rhythm, and participation in worship. Liturgy, for me, is both reverent and accessible — a shared offering shaped by the Church year and the gathered community.

Core Areas of Ministry

My experience includes:

  • Regular parish preaching and teaching

  • Pastoral care, including hospital visitation, end-of-life ministry, and crisis support

  • Worship and liturgy planning across the Church year

  • Adult formation, catechesis, and lay leadership development

  • Collaborative ministry within staff teams and volunteer leadership structures

A consistent thread through my ministry has been the intentional encouragement of others to recognize and exercise their gifts. I have seen how personal invitation, clear expectations, and sustained support can transform both individuals and communities. Enabling others to grow in confidence and faithfulness remains one of the most life-giving aspects of my vocation.
